Cleaning an entire neighborhood can feel like an overwhelming and unattainable task. By focusing on a specific target area—Lexington and 3rd Avenue, from 96th to 104th Street—we can achieve a consistent plateau of cleanliness. Through regular "Clean Up + Street Tree Care" events, we aim to reach a point where our neighborhood is consistently clean and residents take pride in keeping it that way.
We cordially invite you to volunteer with us. It's fun! Scroll our EVENTS page for volunteer opportunities. Please read our Volunteer Waiver, attendance at our events implies consent to waiver. Community Service letters for schools and organizations available digitally upon request.
East Harlem: A Legacy of Sanitation Advocacy, a Future of Green Brilliance.
East Harlem isn't just striving for the cleanest streets in New York City, it's reclaiming its historical role as a sanitation pioneer. In 1969, the Young Lords' iconic protests forced the city to address East Harlem sanitation needs. That spirit lives on. Today, the Lex & 3rd Block Association (L3BA) in collaboration with residents, businesses, community organizations and community leaders united, is weaving East Harlem's rich history into a vibrant, green future. We welcome all New Yorker's to join us and our neighbors for L3BA Street Tree Care + Cleanup Events. Be a part of history in the making, volunteer for a L3BA Event!

An important aspect of L3BA Clean Up Events is our ongoing Positive Affirmation Street Art Series created by Painter + Street Artist Palomas Del El Barrio. Palomas creates street art themes for our events and provides us with non toxic easily washable chalk that is safe for dogs and wildlife.
