Volunteer with L3BA
Brenda B., Co-Founder and Project Director for the Lex & 3rd Block Association (L3BA), is a Nuyorican native of Manhattan and a neighborhood resident since 1997. Driven by a commitment to community service, she co-founded L3BA with her neighbor, Brian, to foster local engagement and stewardship. As Project Director, she leads the organization's core initiatives, including block cleanups, street tree care, and Open Streets on 100th. Brenda also secured a "Love Your Block" grant for L3BA through her proposal, "Give Our Block Flowers." This initiative involves planting flower seeds in local street tree beds to ensure vibrant seasonal growth.
The Lex & 3rd Block Association (L3BA) is a committed group of local residents striving to support the neighborhood in areas of cleanliness, political representation, and cultural preservation.
L3BA is a self-organized, unregistered community group: This is a group of people in a neighborhood who organize to address local community issues, like safety, beautification, and organizing community events, without formal legal incorporation or nonprofit registration. Such groups operate informally but have an important impact on their community.
Co-Founder + Senior Board Member for L3BA, Brian has been a 20+ veteran of the community and has seen a lot of positive change in our neighborhood since moving here in January 2000. His enthusiasm and care for the neighborhood started in the early 2000’s when he successfully petitioned the parks department and city to have trees planted along East 99th Street. Brian has known Brenda for many years, and they shared common goals and ideals to help keep our community clean, safe and support our many local businesses.
As dedicated residents with deep roots in the community, they oversee L3BA activities and decisions. To maintain the privacy and security of our leadership, we do not publish the last names of our board members.

The Lex & 3rd Block Association Pillars:
* Keep our streets clean – free of pet waste, unnecessary trash/dumping and recent uptick in graffiti
* Support local businesses – promote events, buy local, share security footage for safety reasons
* Liaise with public officials – specifically the City Council, State and Federal legislature representatives, working to secure funding for our area
L3BA IS NON PARTISAN WE WELCOME ALL. We respect your right to vote as you see fit. We accept respectful diverse political points of view. We work with anyone who wants to do good for our neighborhood.
The Lex & 3rd Block Association is an inclusive community organization for ALL residents! We celebrate our diverse community & collaborate with everyone - regardless of beliefs - to make our neighborhood a better place. We believe in focusing on what unites us while respecting our differences. Join us for meet-ups, events and online gatherings!
Cleaning an entire neighborhood can feel like an overwhelming and unattainable task. By focusing on a specific target area—Lexington and 3rd Avenue, from 96th to 104th Street—we can achieve a consistent plateau of cleanliness. Through regular "Clean Up + Street Tree Care" events, we aim to reach a point where our neighborhood is consistently clean and residents take pride in keeping it that way.
We cordially invite you to volunteer with us. It's fun! Check out our EVENTS page for volunteer opportunities. Please read our events waiver, attendance at our events implies consent to waiver. Community Service letters available via email upon request.
Securing resources for our neighborhood is a core pillar of L3BA. Our approach focuses on grassroots advocacy: sharing newsletters, circulating petitions, and engaging with government representatives to highlight local needs to identify grant opportunities and foundational support.
